2. Here at Concrete Remodelers, we know concrete! Our years of experience and research have enabled us to “read” by visually looking at your concrete to determine its condition. It’s second nature to us. For example, we know that moisture adversely works against concrete, so we can look for signs of damage when we inspect a project.  It’s so important to preempt and prevent the effects of moisture as much as possible, whenever it is possible. Every project is different, but we are well trained to evaluate the condition of your concrete and find a solution. If we can’t find a solution, we won’t sell you a system. 3. CRO coloration is a “Maintainable” system. Once a project is installed and completed, future repairs only need to be limited to the damaged areas, not the entire project: like repairing a damaged fender on a car.

Can Concrete Remodelers stain an old concrete floors?

    • Yes, we can stain on almost every concrete surface. We also stain vertical surfaces.
    • On new concrete, we need to wait a minimum of 28 days, depending on the thickness and exposure to rain.
    • On interiors with thermo heating and thin concrete pours (under 2.5” thick), we can begin as early as 2-3 weeks.
      • The goal is to not enter too early that the cleaning preparation does not remove the tight, hard troweled surface.

    • Toppings and concrete pours are referred over to our friends: a trusted network of experts.
      • Many up and coming specialty contractors are extremely eager and willing to attempt counter-top installations at extremely low prices.

What does concrete coloration and stain cost?

Every project is completely different from the last.  Some properties have many rooms or specialty trim. Other projects may have a moisture issue and yet another has adhesives. An exterior deck may be faded, but previously sealed. And yet another may require us to work weekends.  These are factors that affect the cost of a project. We believe our prices are not only fair but justified based on the labor intensity and costs of hybrid chemicals and systems. Some systems involve several layers of matrix enhancers, primers, toppings and base coats, hardeners and stain layers, sealers and finishes. All custom installed and hand-crafted on site.

    • While mass-produced-manufactured tile flooring costs an average of $5.00 a square foot to install, usually this cost doesn’t include the price of the tile.  Some specialty tiles will cost up to $22.00 a square foot just for installation and another $20-$50 a square foot for the stone or tile.

“The single most used and abused “aesthetic component” of any residence is the concrete hardscaping.”

Your exterior concrete goes through a lot!  Your family walks on it and plays on it. You drive your car over it and use it as a work surface.  The weather wrecks havoc on your concrete through continued exposure to daylight (pure ultra violet rays) and by saturating it with water when it rains. Let’s not forget about landscape watering and chemicals (fertilizers and plant poisons) that saturate the edges and expansion joints, oh, and those weed-eaters and edgers aren’t exactly a concrete’s best friend.

Temperature has a lot to do with “Color Loss” too. Expansion and contraction occur every day, sucking moisture upwards from below grade and squeezing it through the concrete headed towards the warmth of the top side, taking the pigmented oxides with it. Over time the sun’s rays fade it away and before long, you end up with unsightly cow patterns instead of your beautiful decorative concrete.

Have you ever noticed the concrete at the perimeter of your house, at the places where moisture drips off edges of roof lines? Especially in climates where fog occurs.  You will often find that your concrete’s large sand and even the aggregates are totally exposed.  That’s because the moisture that drips from these areas, due to rain or fog, and even landscape watering is accelerating your concrete’s vicious life cycle, causing further damage. When you spot areas where the smooth finish of stamped concrete or the broom finish of regular concrete is missing, you are seeing evidence of  damage being caused by moisture on your concrete.

Of course, not only pigments, but sealers are also affected in this process.  Where there was once a protected sealed concrete surface, you now have visible areas of exposure. The culprit once again being water that is traveling from below grade and moisture penetrating from beneath the concrete slab.

This is why it is so important to maintain the sealers on your decorative concrete (Just like you would on a wood surface.) By doing so you reduce the amount of moisture being absorbed and inhibit future damage.

You may not see the damage during the rainy season. The real problem doesn’t start until the hot months of summer.

Much like underground streams, landscape and rain water from higher elevations are absorbed deep into the surface where it is cool.  By its own weight, the water begins a journey led by gravity, down hill. This journey can take months. Although some of the water does evaporate into the open air, it does make its way upward through your concrete.

When the temperature changes and the weather turns hot, you may notice white dusty powder, crystals, or loose concrete dust showing up on your concrete surface. These are signs that the concrete is acting as a “heat-sink” and the cool water is being drawn to it. You can test this on your own.  Place a rubber mat or plastic sheet over a problem area. After a couple of days, lift the material and you will see a wet area equal to the shape of your mat. At first it may seem harmless, but over time, (even in as little as a few months), you can see the damage occurring. This is especially obvious in “newer” decorative and integral concrete pours.

Thankfully, there are ways to resolve and reduce “most” of these issues while gaining control over the cycle of moisture damage. By physically looking at your concrete, Concrete Remodelers can evaluate the level of damage to determine what can be done. (And what can’t be done)
